Taylor Hanson – Take My Time

  • Post category:News

===UPDATE 3/23/11===

Some more information has come in on the wire about this song and actually a little bit more insight on the song Were All Women too; which will be appearing on the new EP Party All Goddamn Night. Anyway, Take My Time was put together just outside of Tulsa Oklahoma with Taylor Hanson on vocals, Andrew playing acoustic guitar, and Dan Haseltine on the electric piano. Once the song was written, a studio version was recorded (as archived below) with Andrew W.K. on bass and some hand percussion. It was all written and recorded in a single day. The same methods were used while writing Were All Women only on a different day, it was in collaboration with Peter Yanowitz. This quasi band camp (Hanson Fools Banquet) lasted for four days, which if you do the math leaves two other songs Andrew participated in that are still out there somewhere waiting for you to find them.

=================

I betcha didn’t know Andrew W.K. collaborated with Taylor Hanson (from Hanson) & Dan Haseltine (from Jars of Clay) for a song called Take My Time?! Its unclear who wrote what but all three are credited for writing the music and lyrics in 2007 at the Fools Banquet. That said, Taylor Hanson is the one who performs it hence, he’s known for the song.

Here are the lyrics:

I’ve never had a true obsession
but that’s what you turned out to be
spent hours reeling
The days you’re stealing
Well, they might be the death of me
take me alive
take my breath, my heartbeat inside
If you let me I’ll give you
All that’s worth taking
Take my time
I’ve never needed conversation
To fill an empty afternoon
Your touch it wakes me
Your love it makes me
Every moment with you ends too soon
take me alive
take my breath, my heartbeat inside
If you let me I’ll give you
All that’s worth taking
Take my time
oh won’t you take my time

The Top 10 Andrew WK Songs You Never Knew Existed

  • Post category:News

10. The McLaughlin Groove

Is a play on words for McLaughlin Group, a 1/2 hour TV program broad-casted in the United States. The lyrics of the song are based on actual off-hand comments made by the commentators of the show. It’s completely nonsensical, which makes for perfect content of an AWK song!

9. Party Party Party

Created for the Aqua Teen Hunger Force TV show. This humorous parody of the familiar Party theme associated with AWK is highlighted in its lyrics O Party Party Party, parties make me farty, I gotta take an antacid, so I can keep on party. After the first couple of listens it’s pretty catchy! Gotta love the Bach-esque piano outro.

8. Hearing What I Said

This one slid under the radar due to Cartoon Network pulling the plug on the correlating music video from YouTube just a day after it was posted. This was probably PR damage control due to the out-cry from CN network fans against CNs new CNREAL programming change. I could care less about CN. But hey! us AWK fans got a music video and a song out of it, right?! The song is actually a rendition of Not Going To Bed from the CCWBW album.

7. I Was Born To Love You

If you haven’t heard of this one its because its brand-new! The new E-Single from Japan is a cover of the Freddie Mercury’s song of the same name. Its Andrews latest release in a marketing blitz to build up to his upcoming EP (March 30th) and LP (sometime later this year hopefully). Andrew really belts it out in this one An Amazing Feeling, Coming Through!!!!

6. It Just Got Hotter

This was created in 2007 as the theme song for the Arizona hockey team Sun Dogs. Its a rendition of Fun Night from the I Get Wet album. Though it was primarily released from the official AWK website, what many people don’t know is that there was an actual promo CD released for it as well. It also included the track You Will Remember Tonight on it. I love the way the song ends in this version Because-It-Just-Got-HOTTER.

5. Steev Mike Radio Commercial

Though not technically an actual song but more of a promo/advert/commercial. Ranked #5 because this will undoubtedly raise an eyebrow at the oddities found in the track. Not only does it contain Andrew W.K. stating he’s Steev Mike (an Island Records recording artist) but it also has alternate versions of Its Time To Party, She Is Beautiful and others. Hey, its mixed together pretty well too!

4. The Santos Cheer

Though it has no official Andrew W.K. name credited to it, the night clubs theme song was obviously influenced/created by him. What you may not have known is that the Santos Party House Blog once offered the tracks within the song to competitors to create the best mix of the song for a prize. It’s no wonder why this tune is one of the most popular B-Sides on this site. The news must have gotten out about this base-thumper and the catchy sing-a-long chorus! (if you have those individual tracks let me know!)

3. Kit Kat Song

Short and sweet, but what a regular song can only do in 2:30 this song does it in 30 seconds flat! The highs and lows, it’s all slam packed into this one. Dare I say way better than the original Kit Kat jingle?! I know at least 930 people that would agree with me.

2. Mickey Mouse Club March

Wow. Ranked #2 for a reason. Words can’t really explain it, just listen to it.

1. Fang (Kiba)

For whatever reason, I never hear anybody talking about this song. Which is why I’ve chosen it as the #1 spot for the most underrated-unknown song by AWK. Kiba is a Japan-only single and this English version entitled Fang really packs a punch. While collaborating with Marty Friedman, Andrew’s lyrical inspiration on this track may not have been rivaled since The Wolf (Fang (Kiba) lyrics here). Enjoy!

The “Party All Goddamn Night” EP

  • Post category:News

BREAKING NEWS! We now have album art and a name to Andrew’s brand new EP, “Party All Goddamn Night”. It ships March 30th 2011 in Japan. A release date in America is still unconfirmed. A full length album is expected later this year.

– Thoughts –

If the expected rumors of an American release are true than it should bring many unique qualities to this release. Yes, its true we’ve enjoyed many additional releases of AWK music since The Wolf way back in 2003, but each release seems to have had some type of condition (annoyingly I might add) attached to it especially to us Americans. Sadly, this is probably due to Andrews various legal troubles he’s dealt with throughout his career. To recap here is some of the history behind Andrew W.K.s discography.

Andrews 3rd studio album Close Calls With Brick Walls was released in 2006, but only in Asia. The Japan Covers were released exclusively to Asia in 2008, but c’mon they were J-Pop cover songs. A Wild Pear was a split 7″ for Canada in 2009, also covers. 2009 saw another Japan-only album, this time from the Gundam franchise, more covers. 55 Cadillac was released in America but is not considered in the Party Rock style we usually associate AWK with, also the album was probably created more as a legal victory than anything else. We Got A Groove was a split 7″ on a Volcom label, it was perhaps the first exclusively released song (Party Rock-style) in America since The Wolf! However, it was only one track on vinyl and for a long time was only available by joining Volcom’s vinyl club like $30.00 if you wanted one song?!?! A collaborated Single, Kiba was released in 2010, to Japan only. Vagabond was technically released in the UK. The dual release of Close Calls With Brick Walls/Mother of Mankind was A) a re-release and B) a B-sides/Anthology type of album. I Was Born To Love You was just released as E-Single, a Japan-only cover song.

Don’t get me wrong, I’ve enjoyed every single one of these releases thoroughly but sometimes knowing about the added baggage associated with each release is sometimes cumbersome as a listener and as a fan. I sometimes wish I was naive to it all so I could enjoy it without the added weight. That said, to hope for a new studio album released in the artists native country (without cover songs, re-releases, splits or heavy collaborations) isn’t too wild of an idea is it?

Soooo to me this release is EXCITING and seems different in many ways. It is as if it has no bloated legal baggage and no strings attached it. It will be the first American EP released in 11 years (the two prior being AWKGOJ and Party Til You Puke, both 2000). My prediction is that it will usher in a new era of Andrew W.K. and a benchmark of what can be expected for the near future. GET READY TO PARTY 2011!!!

Anonymous ## PARTY HARD

This is Andrew W.K.
Ask me anything.

[First Post]
This is Andrew W.K. Ask me anything.

How does one BECOME the party as you have? How can I possibly commit my life entirely to partying, AWK?

First of all, I’m so happy to be here and I’m really grateful to 4chan, moot, gingermod, and shut for having me. And thank you to EVERYONE at 4chan for making this place what it is. To answer your question about BECOMING a party, if you have to ask, you already are.

Do you think that you are more attractive with or without beard?

I think I look like Andrew W.K. and that’s all that matters.

Are we ever gonna get another album like 55 Cadillac?

Thank you for asking. Since 2005, I’ve been working on an album called Young Lord, an album called The Carrier, and an instrumental rock and roll album. And I absolutely want to record another album of piano music, but it won’t be like 55 Cadillac – that album was a one-off for many reasons both personal and professional (or unprofessional).I’ve put many of these long term recording projects on hold while I’ve focused on other musical efforts. Right now I’m recording for my new album. It’s party rock.

WHY AREN’T YOU ANSWERING ANY MORE QUESTIONS?? ANY SINGLE ONE WILL DO JUST SAY SOMETHING ANDREWWWWWWWWwwwwwww

I’m answering as fast as I can! The guys here at @4chan told me that things are a little slow at the moment due to heavy traffic. We’re going as fast as we can! THANK YOU! KEEP PARTYING!

Hi Andrew. I just got here but I have a question. What is your FAVORITE MEME? Sorry if question has been asked already.

Well, my new favorite meme is THANK YOU BASEDGOD. I’ve been a huge fan of Lil B for the past few years and have been totally pysched about him and everyone who is getting into me.

Why on earth would you put your reputation on the line by openly browsing this shit hole? At least you’re not on /b/. We don’t like them.

Why would be here? At this shit hole? Because this place rules and I’m just blown away by how intense 4chan is. I’ve been very grateful that moot and the BASEDMODS invited me to do this. I’m a big believer in this board. 4chan is one of the most important human achievements of all time.

How old are you?

I AM 10 YEARS OLD.

Andrew, what was the greatest moment of your life?

The greatest moment of life so far is being here right now on 4chan. The second best moment of my life was being born.

Dear Andrew W.K, If you were stuck on an island for the rest of your life and you had a CD Player with unlimited battery life and 5 CD’s, what 5 CD’s would they be?

I would bring 5 copies of Neutral Milk Hotel – In The Airplane Over The Sea.

Are you straight edge Andrew W.K.???

I have never considered myself straight edge. I have enjoyed alcohol and certain drugs. I never drank or did drugs until I was 21, but not for any particular reason. It just happened that way.

Andrew, what is your stance on piracy in the music industry, how do you feel about your albums in particular being pirated

When it comes to downloading music without paying for it, I understand people’s concerns, but it’s been hard for to ever really feel upset personally. I think of downloading kind of like the radio. All I want is for people to listen to what I’m putting out there. Everything else will take care of itself.

Be honest Andrew W.K., have you ever pirated a song? And what was it?

I used Napster and Limewire a lot when they first came out. I loved that I could think of any song and then get it. Then I used iTunes from time to time, but over the years I’ve been downloading less and buying more CDs, which I didn’t expect would happen. I guess the reason I prefer CDs is that almost anywhere I go in the world, whether in a car, or in some office building or someone’s house, I can most likely find a CD player, and that’s all I care about being able to hear music where I am.

Hey andrew, how do you stay so positive? a lot of people here resent you attitude, can you please respond to negativity with a three page answer about how to better your life?

I think staying positive all the time is kind of un-fun. Life has all kinds of feelings to offer and I’d like to experience as much as possible. One of the reasons I like 4chan is because it’s not all positive. I love negativity very much and every feeling between happy and sad. Overall, the experience of being alive is inherently positive, and within that why not enjoy your emotions – just remember that at the end of the day, everything about existence is completely absurd. But of course 99.9999% of 4chan users already understand this essential truth.

Unlikely this will be answered, but what is your favorite Boredoms album? I think I remember reading somewhere you were one of the drummers for the 77 Boadrum performance.

My two favorite Boredoms albums are WOW 2 and Pop Tatari. But even more than those, I like Hanatarashi albums by Eye solo.

Yes! I would love to work with Lil B. I’ve been in touch with him on the computer and he’s been really, really nice. I just included him in a feature I did in FRONT magazine in the UK – he’s one of my favorite new musicians. Lil B also played his first New York City show at the venue I co-own, Santos Party House. Lil B is the Based God.

Do you enjoy listening to your own music, Andrew?

I enjoy playing my own music live, and I enjoy listening to my songs as I’m recording them. As you’re aware, a lot of times when you’re recording or writing a song, you end up listening to the same thing over and over and over. As far as listening to it after the recording is done, it all depends. Its always a strange experience.
