The show, hosted by skating legend Tony Hawk, honored the best in sports over the past year – but certainly wasn’t your typical awards ceremony.   Featuring performance by Travie McCoy and Far East Movement, the show honored Dwight Howard with the “All-Pro Class Clown” award; Ryan Sheckler with the “Alti-Dude” award; the NY Yankees & the Boston Red Sox with the “Best Foes Forever” award and many others.   Kobe Bryant was accepted a special honor – KING OF THE COURT award, which was presented by George Lopez.

The time has come.

With collaboration from Holly of the legendary fan-site Dontstopthenoise.com were now working on the IIIrd non-profit fan-made-tribute-CD!!!!!! The concept is simple, we need fans to submit their tracks! You can NOW upload your work using the uploader tool here or you can submit tracks to awkmusic@gmail.com. Remember to include your name with the track title so you can get credit on the CD!

Rules? There are no rules for submission! If you haven’t already listened to the first two albums; When In Doubt, Wolf It Out and When In Doubt, Wolf It Out II check them out for some inspiration. You’ll notice the various types of tracks include:

  1. Fan-made AWK cover songs
  2. Fan-made remixes of AWK songs
  3. Original songs from fans that fall under the Party Rock genre

However, we are encouraging everyone to branch out a little and try some of the newer songs that have been released since I Get Wet. It’ll get boring if we have ten different versions of Party Hard, ya know?! Check out the Discography or B-Sides page for more ideas.

While the track list is being built well be compiling and finalizing a CD version for all to download freely. Then, visitors will be able to vote on their favorite song that PARTIED the most and one lucky winner will win a prize pack from AndrewWKMusic.com! Not to mention YOUR WORK will surely be heard by AWK himself and thousands of fans! Why are we doing this? FOR FUN!

The “Party All Goddamn Night” EP

  • Post category:News

BREAKING NEWS! We now have album art and a name to Andrew’s brand new EP, “Party All Goddamn Night”. It ships March 30th 2011 in Japan. A release date in America is still unconfirmed. A full length album is expected later this year.

– Thoughts –

If the expected rumors of an American release are true than it should bring many unique qualities to this release. Yes, its true we’ve enjoyed many additional releases of AWK music since The Wolf way back in 2003, but each release seems to have had some type of condition (annoyingly I might add) attached to it especially to us Americans. Sadly, this is probably due to Andrews various legal troubles he’s dealt with throughout his career. To recap here is some of the history behind Andrew W.K.s discography.

Andrews 3rd studio album Close Calls With Brick Walls was released in 2006, but only in Asia. The Japan Covers were released exclusively to Asia in 2008, but c’mon they were J-Pop cover songs. A Wild Pear was a split 7″ for Canada in 2009, also covers. 2009 saw another Japan-only album, this time from the Gundam franchise, more covers. 55 Cadillac was released in America but is not considered in the Party Rock style we usually associate AWK with, also the album was probably created more as a legal victory than anything else. We Got A Groove was a split 7″ on a Volcom label, it was perhaps the first exclusively released song (Party Rock-style) in America since The Wolf! However, it was only one track on vinyl and for a long time was only available by joining Volcom’s vinyl club like $30.00 if you wanted one song?!?! A collaborated Single, Kiba was released in 2010, to Japan only. Vagabond was technically released in the UK. The dual release of Close Calls With Brick Walls/Mother of Mankind was A) a re-release and B) a B-sides/Anthology type of album. I Was Born To Love You was just released as E-Single, a Japan-only cover song.

Don’t get me wrong, I’ve enjoyed every single one of these releases thoroughly but sometimes knowing about the added baggage associated with each release is sometimes cumbersome as a listener and as a fan. I sometimes wish I was naive to it all so I could enjoy it without the added weight. That said, to hope for a new studio album released in the artists native country (without cover songs, re-releases, splits or heavy collaborations) isn’t too wild of an idea is it?

Soooo to me this release is EXCITING and seems different in many ways. It is as if it has no bloated legal baggage and no strings attached it. It will be the first American EP released in 11 years (the two prior being AWKGOJ and Party Til You Puke, both 2000). My prediction is that it will usher in a new era of Andrew W.K. and a benchmark of what can be expected for the near future. GET READY TO PARTY 2011!!!

Are you straight edge Andrew W.K.???
I have never considered myself straight edge. I have enjoyed alcohol and certain drugs. I never drank or did drugs until I was 21, but not for any particular reason. It just happened that way.

Andrew, what is your stance on piracy in the music industry, how do you feel about your albums in particular being pirated
When it comes to downloading music without paying for it, I understand peoples concerns, but its been hard for to ever really feel upset personally. I think of downloading kind of like the radio. All I want is for people to listen to what Im putting out there. Everything else will take care of itself.

Be honest Andrew W.K., have you ever pirated a song? And what was it?
I used Napster and Limewire a lot when they first came out. I loved that I could think of any song and then get it. Then I used iTunes from time to time, but over the years I’ve been downloading less and buying more CDs, which I didn’t expect would happen. I guess the reason I prefer CDs is that almost anywhere I go in the world, whether in a car, or in some office building or someone’s house, I can most likely find a CD player, and that’s all I care about being able to hear music where I am.

hey andrew, how do you stay so positive? a lot of people here resent you attitude, can you please respond to negativity with a three page answer about how to better your life?
I think staying positive all the time is kind of un-fun. Life has all kinds of feelings to offer and Id like to experience as much as possible. One of the reasons I like 4chan is because its not all positive. I love negativity very much and every feeling between happy and sad.
Overall, the experience of being alive is inherently positive, and within that why not enjoy your emotions just remember that at the end of the day, everything about existence is completely absurd. But of course 99.9999% of 4chan users already understand this essential truth.

Unlikely this will be answered, but what is your favorite Boredoms album? I think I remember reading somewhere you were one of the drummers for the 77 Boadrum performance.
My two favorite Boredoms albums are WOW 2 and Pop Tatari. But even more than those, I like Hanatarashi albums by Eye solo.

Would you work with Lil B the Based God?
Yes! I would love to work with Lil B. I’ve been in touch with him on the computer and he’s been really, really nice. I just included him in a feature I did in FRONT magazine in the UK he’s one of my favorite new musicians. Lil B also played his first New York City show at the venue I co-own, Santos Party House. Lil B is the Based God.

Would you consider collaborating with them?
Odd Future is awesome. I’m hosting a Santos Party House concert with Thrasher Magazine in Austin, Texas for South by South West.
And Odd Future are playing. So is Pentagram. But its a secret so don’t tell anyone else.

Do you enjoy listening to your own music, Andrew?
I enjoy playing my own music live, and I enjoy listening to my songs as I’m recording them. As you’re aware, a lot of times when you’re recording or writing a song, you end up listening to the same thing over and over and over. As far as listening to it after the recording is done, it all depends. Its always a strange experience.

So a blog over at http://fanmaderecordings.blogspot.com/ has posted a live recording of the Big Day Out festival held in Australia. The recording is entitled 2011-01-30-Big Day Out, Flemington Racecourse. Now, perhaps I just didn’t look hard enough or the memo just never got to my desk but there were hardly ANY proper bootlegs from Warped Tour last Summer. I don’t know how many shows Andrew played but I know it was more than this Australian festival. He plays a few shows in Australia and BAM we get some recordings! You win this one Australia, but I’ll gladly take the loss if this means we get more AWK concerts out of you. Thanks to fanmaderecordings you can enjoy the following:

This is what they said about it:
