3. Where Can I Submit Suggestions?

4. Who Is www.AndrewWKMusic.com?

This is not the official Andrew W.K. website (www.andrewwk.com), this is a fan site created by dickalan and ran by him and other the administrators. They are “readytodie”, “AmigoWK”, “LewisSO”, and “Lexleningrad”.

5. What Does Andrew W.K. Think About This Site?

Andrew and his staff are fully aware of this site. He has endorsed, encouraged and supported this site many different times and in many different ways. He has always encouraged sharing rare tracks between fans; this works nicely under our motto “Archiving All Thinks AWK”. This site does not archive Andrew’s full length LP’s, you’ll have to go buy them. Proof: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, etc.

Novice Users

1. How Do I Retrieve Archived Content? – (Downloading)

First, you must understand and agree that the by clicking on archived copyrighted downloads from this site you already personally own a copy of the material and have the rights and privileges to use it. Now, you’ll find various places on this site that say “Archived Here” or “Download” in RED lettering. Clicking on those links will take you to www.4shared.com or the link will automatically start to download. If taken to 4shared.com (most) you will not immediately download the file. Now at the 4shared website you must select “Download Now (No virus detected)” button. Depending on how large the file is a timer will countdown to zero. A new link will appear saying “Download file now”, click on that link and the file will start downloading.

2. What’s A “.rar” File?

You’ll notice many of the downloads from www.AndrewWKMusic.com have a “.rar” file extension. A “.rar” file is actually many files packaged and wrapped into a single file. Think of it as a “folder” on your hard drive that has mp3′s in it. The actual “.rar” file is NOT the content you’re looking for, it’s inside it! There are a number of free programs you can use to extract all the files out of the “.rar” file. Follow these steps:
Google search: “Winrar”, “7zip”, “Winzip”, or “7zx” (for mac)
Download & install the program
Download the desired .rar file from 4shared.com
Find the .rar file on your computer, right click and hit “extract”

3. What’s A “.Torrent” File?

A .torrent file is literally a file that points your computer in the direction of another computer’s files, which they are hosting. Downloading a .torrent file is not good enough though, you also need to download and install a program such as Utorrent. These types of programs are what actually connects the person hosting the file (seeders) and you the down-loader (leechers). Once you’ve completed the download please “seed” as long as possible! The reason why you’re probably asking this is because you’re thinking of downloading a very large file on this site, usually anything over 200mb—-but not always. This is most often the case with video footage and especially DVD’s.

4. How Do I Upload Media To The Site?

Great question! I love this question because that means you’ve collected something worth sharing! We have just the thing for you, an entire page called “Uploader” is dedicated to fully answering this question. Basically though there is this toolthat you can use to upload ANY type of file you want. Remember check out the “Uploader” page for a full explanation.

5. Why Do You Use The Website “4shared.com”?

I could host the files myself and perhaps someday I will but their user interface as an admin is stellar! Also more features include 10 gigs of FREE space online, URL’s don’t expire or change, file management user interface is easy to use, zipping or .rar files are not necessary with the ‘mulituploader’ tool, easily track # of downloads, 200mb size limit per file, and it’s fast!

6. What Stuff Do You Already Have Up On The Site?

This is kind of a complicated question. We try to be as organized as possible around here but there are 3 different ways to find out. First, you can go to the “Discography” page and see A LOT of it right there. Second you can visit this AWKShare checklist document. We’re telling you a third way because honestly those lists might not be updated ever single time something is posted on this website. The third is just to hunt around in the “News” section for newly added stuff and then just hunting around on the site’s pages. Good luck!

7. When Are You Going To Put Up The Really Rare Stuff?

As soon as we get it! We are NOTelitists” around here and we’re not hiding anything from you. If the “source” of the material gives us the go-a-head then it’ll be up as fast as we can put it up. However, if we do have something that the “source” doesn’t want us to share for whatever reason then we will respect their wishes. Sorry!

Intermediate Users

1. Is The Shop Legit (Secure)?

Absolutely! and actually nothing we sell is technically “in-house”. It’s done through very trusted affiliate programs like Amazon.com.

2. What’s The Difference Between A “Post” And A “Page” On This Website?

The difference between a blog & post and a website & page is that blogs continually change by updated content and website page’s are “static”. Blogs are ideal for a news section because when a new post appears, older post’s subject matter is pushed down. It’s one of the most important sections of a site because readers can use MANY different tools that are now available to receive news updates.

A website page stays in the same spot and has one subject. This is ideal for content that’s important enough to have a permanent home, unlike posts that get ‘lost’ as they age. Andrew WK Music uses both blog posts and website pages, they are designed the same way so you might not have even noticed it! Blog posts are found in the News section only and therest of the site is made up of website pages. Scroll down to “Resources” to find the tools used to help you receive your news updates. What’s With The “Music” and “More Music!” Sections

3. What’s With The “Music” and “More Music!” Sections?

The “Music” tab drop down menu provides links to pages that deals exclusively with Andrew W.K. related releases. The “More Music!” tab provides archived content that has some sort of connection to “Andrew W.K.” either directly or indirectly.

4. Why Are There Broken Links?

Because you haven’t told me they are broken. Chances are if there is a link and it’s broken it’s not meant to be that way. Please let the webmaster know about it.

5. What’s With The Chat Room?

The chat room is here for you! If there is nobody in the chat room than the best way to “chat” AWK is to set a time in our forums and hopefully people show up.

Website Resources

We have provided many facets to follow, contribute, and interact with our (YOUR) site and community. Although it’s not necessary to utilize all of the tools available, the more involved you are the more you’ll squeeze every drop of news and info out of it. We suggest starting with a medium you already use, like email and add from there.

An RSS feed URL needs to be used with a “RSS Reader”. The most popular ones are: Google Reader, Yahoo’s, News Gator, and Bloglines. Click the button to get the URL Feed, then copy and paste it into the Reader. In your Reader you can quickly view any news updates to multiple sites at once, rather than taking the time to actually visit all of them. Subscribe!

Our Facebook Fan Page allows Facebook users to network with each other in order to achieve any given goal. The “Wall” can also be used to view news updates from the blog, much like a RSS Reader. It’s also used specifically for our “Photos” section. Become a fan!

(Alternatively you can plug Facebook “Notes” RSS Feed into your RSS Reader but we suggest using the regular feed from above)

Our Twitter page allows Twitter users to network with each other in order to achieve any given goal. Our “Profile” shows any news updates from the blog, much like a RSS Reeder. Follow us!

(Alternatively you can plug Twitter Tweets RSS Feed into your RSS Reader but we suggest using the regular feed from above)

News updates from the blog can come by Email. This is similar to what a RSS Reader does, but it’s delivered to your “Inbox” instead. Subscribe!

Forums are the heart of our ‘community’. Here you can create your own profile, customize it and than communicate with others who have the same agenda as you! Create a profile!

Uploading content to YOUR archive is where anybody can submit content to the “Archive”. You can submit video, audio, photo, text, .zip, and .rar files. While the files are there anybody can download them. However, regular maintenance will be conducted to clean out the archive. Those files will be migrated to the rest of the archive in their proper website page. So keep an eye out for them!

SMS Texts are text messages sent to your cell phone. You’ll instantly get texts about news updates from the blog. This is for the hard-core user only. Enter your number! (unavailable at the moment)

At the bottom of most posts and pages there is a “Leave a Reply” section (it’s on this page!). You only have to enter your information the first time you make a comment. Then feel free to post anything you like about the subject matter. For example this page is for “Questions – Answers – Facts – Help” for the site. You could post questions you have about the site and an admin or other community members can answer them. This creates a conversation which in turn will hopefully improve whatever is being discussed. Leave comments!

The “Share-This” button can be found at the bottom of every post and page. It will open a menu for you to easily “share” the post or page in many, many, many different ways. Primarily through accounts you already have on other popular websites. Try it below!

Anyone Can Create an Administrator Account!

So you want to be one of “us” huh? Great! because we have an open door policy and everyone is invited in!!! A number of privileges will be given to the admin of this site. The most important being that YOU can create, shape, and expand this website into whatever you want it to be. Here’s what you have to do to earn your badge…

Creating an Admin Account Instructions:

  1. Choose a desired user name to be applied to both your AndrewWKMusic account and an @AndrewWKMusic.com email address. For example the user name “PartyPatrick” will also be created for an email address of “PartyPatrick@andrewwkmusic.com”. That NEW email address will be created only after you’ve completely registered. You do not have to use the email.
  2. Now you need to register. Create an admin account now! You can also click on the link under “Administrator’s Panel” on the upper left hand column of this page entitled “Register”.
  3. Login to the email address you provided to verify and activate your account with the given link. You’ll also receive more important notes in that email, please read them.
  4. You will automatically be assigned the role of a “Contributor”. See the definitions of various “roles” below. You can quickly move up according to merit. Please let dickalan know if your current assigned role is limiting you in what you want to accomplish and contribute to the site.
  5. Login! and you can now access the “back-end” of this site.
  6. You will be notified of your newly activated @AndrewWKMusic.com email address one day after registration. Access your NEW email address via AndrewWKMusic’s & Gmail’s Login Page. If you want privacy please change the temporary password given! Know that’s it’s very easy to have this email forwarded to your already existing personal email.

Congrats you’re done!

You’ve earned your badge, now go make some posts!

Please read the hierarchy of roles and responsibilities defined at WordPress’s Summary of Roles article. They are:

  1. Super Admin – Someone with access to the blog network administration features controlling the entire network.
  2. Administrator – Somebody who has access to all the administration features
  3. Editor – Somebody who can publish and manage posts and pages as well as manage other users’ posts, etc.
  4. Author – Somebody who can publish and manage their own posts
  5. Contributor – Somebody who can write and manage their posts but not publish them
  6. Subscriber – Somebody who can only manage their profile

Optional 4shared.com Account

Although you’ll have to do this on your own, we HIGHLY suggest creating a personal account at 4shared.com for uploading and sharing content with other admin and website users. The online version works great! But for added features and quicker upload times you can also download the 4shared desktop software, I use both.

Features include 10 gigs of FREE online storage, URL’s that don’t expire or change, an easy to use file management user interface, zipping or .rar files are not necessary with the ‘mulituploader’ tool, easily track the # of times a file has been downloaded, and it’s fast! The only downside is that there’s a 200mb file size upload and download limit. Contact dickalan if you have larger files than this, it’s probably best to create a .torrent file in this situation.
